Although this makes it the number one killer of dogs, it does not necessarily mean that cancer is a death sentence. Statistics show that about 50% of cancer can be cured. So each case has a 50% chance. The important thing to remember is that if you discover the cancer early you have a better chance than later. Here are some signs The American Veterinary Medical Association suggest you look for:

1. Abnormal swellings that persist or continue to grow
2. Sores that do not heal
3. Weight loss
4. Loss of appetite
5. Bleeding or discharge from any body opening
6. Offensive odor
7. Difficulty eating or swallowing
8. Hesitation to exercise or loss of stamina
9. Persistent lameness or stiffness
10. Difficulty breathing, urinating or defecating
Any of the above signs you should get your dog to the vet as soon as possible for a check up.
